PCI Simple Communications Controller I recently downloaded Windows 7 professional x64 on my toshiba satellite a665-s6094 laptop. After the install I had several devices that I had to reinstall manually but I am having trouble with the PCI Simple Communications Controller. The hardware id is. Drivers: PCI Simple communications controller. PCI Simple Communications Controller Driver for Dell - Latitude E6430 working on Microsoft Windows 8.1. Device Name: PCI Simple Communications Controller. VISTA = Windows Vista, WIN7 = Windows 7,WIN10= Windows 10 Driver name. Operating System. Intel(R) Management Engine Interface.
I have a dell optiplex 755 (tower), it was shipped originally with vista but was recently reinstalled using Windows 7, 64 bit.
THe serial port driver, and something else called 'PCI Simple Communications Controller' (possibly a modem on the motherboard) are listed as 'other devices' in the device manager, with yellow exclamation marks in the icons meaning they have no drivers installed.
Dell does not list any drivers on their usual website where you enter your service tag. I am pretty sure this is a standard Intel Q## chipset. Does anybody know which one exactly, and where I can get the chipset drivers and particularly, the serial port drivers, for 64 bit Windows 7?

Go to the drivers section on dell's site and enter your service tag:
1) Install the latest chipset drivers from dell's site.2) If that doesn't work, install the latest networking drivers from dell's site.3) If that doesn't work, install the latest video card drivers from dell's site.
Go to Dell's support site and look up 745C drivers under 'Chipset'. Download the last 2 drivers and install them in your Dell driver directory under Intel PCI Driver Management. Use these to update the drivers in the Device Manager and problem fixed!
The answer is the driver: Intel AMT SOL LMS. For the Serial Port Driver. From the driver list select Windows Vista 64 for Windows 7 / Server 2008 64-Bit.

'PCI serial port driver error' points at a Chipset driver. Please share if any part (Motherboard, Hard Drive, etc) was replaced on the notebook recently. Or did you make any software change (Windows re-installation, etc.) in the unit? Would also like to know if you've tried updating Windows, as suggested by 'maxie'.
If you're still facing this trouble, you may try the following steps:
1. Update Chipset drivers, using the following links (Note - Links given below are tested to work with Latitude E6400 notebook with Windows 7 64 bit):
Click http://dell.to/138LEgl to download 'Intel AMT HECI' driver
Click http://dell.to/13l9qaL to download 'Intel AMT SOL/ LMS' driver
Follow through with the installation as per the on-screen instructions. Allow the system to restart and share results.
2. If the issue still persists, try flashing system BIOS. Note: Before flashing the BIOS please check the following: Battery should have 10% or greater charge; Adapter should be connected; No external devices should be connected; All other programs should be closed and documents saved
Click http://dell.to/16JS8c2 to download/install the latest BIOS version. A33 version was recently released (29/04/2013) and has an update for the 'Intel(R) Active Management Technology firmware'. Apply this update and share the findings. I'll take it forward from there (If not done already).
